The disorder occurs when a tendinopathy, or a disorder with a tendon, develops in one of the gluteal muscles or Greater Trochanter. When this occurs, the tendons can become inflamed, making it very painful to sit, stand, or walk. The gluteal muscles are a collection of three muscles that make up the gluteal region usually known as the buttocks.
