Shiv Sena (UBT)

The full-page advertisement which appeared in major newspapers in the state on Tuesday cited a survey that showed Shinde ahead of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis in popularity. It did not feature Fadnavis's photo, while its tagline read "Modi in the country, Shinde in Maharashtra." “What was the intention behind giving a jolt to Fadnavis and ignoring Bal Thackeray? The issue is not an advertisement, but the fact that those who claim to be the (real) Shiv Sena have placed their faction at Modi's feet," the Saamana editorial said. Politics of one-upmanship has begun between the BJP and Shinde group, the Saamana editorial further said, adding that the Shinde group is showing off "borrowed vigour." Chief minister Shinde has three official bungalows and the survey was probably conducted only across these three bungalows, it quipped. EC grants Shiv Sena name, symbol to Shinde; Thackeray to challenge in HC

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday in an order said that the party name "Shiv Sena" and the symbol "Bow and Arrow" will be retained by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led faction. The Shiv Sena (UBT) led by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray however slams the EC decision and said it would challenge it in High Court. The EC in its oreder observed that the current constitution of the Shiv Sena on which former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray was placing reliance is undemocratic. "While applying the 'Test of party Constitution', the Commission found that the party constitution on which the respondent (Uddhav Thackeray faction) was placing strong reliance is undemocratic," said the Commission in its 78-page order issued on Friday. "The complete list of office bearers of various bodies was not provided to the Commission, whenever elections were held or appointments were made," said the Commission. The EC observed that amendments to the constitution in 2018 had undone the act of introducing democratic norms in the 'Party Constitution of 1999', brought by the late Bal Thackeray at the insistence of the Election Commission. The EC order also noted that the undemocratic norms of the original constitution of Shiv Sena, which was not accepted by the Commission in 1999 have been brought back in a surreptitious manner, further making the party akin to a fiefdom. "The paradox of India being the world's largest democracy and its political field bein...

Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray General Elections Sanjay Raut Coalition Government

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and member of Rajya Sabha Sanjay Raut on Wednesday said there will be a coalition government in India after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. His comment came just ahead of a meeting called by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on June 12, in which key opposition leaders are expected to deliberate on a strategy to defeat the BJP. Along with other Opposition leaders, like NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray will attend the meeting to decide on fielding common candidates in all the 450 constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections next year. While speaking to reporters earlier today, Raut said, “All like-minded parties are coming together and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is taking a lead in this. Uddhav Thackeray will attend the meeting in Patna.” Kumar has been meeting Opposition leaders in the country in a bid to unite them against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.Earlier this month, Kumar also met Thackeray at the latter's residence in Mumbai in order to strengthen the Opposition unity ahead of elections next year. Bihar Minister and senior JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary earlier on Monday said most parties opposed to the BJP are likely to take part in the "extremely important meeting". A day earlier on Tuesday also, Raut reiterated senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's stance and said that a decision on fielding one common candidate in all the 450 constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections i...

Shiv Sena (UBT) changes Twitter handle, loses blue tick

The handle @ShivsenaComms which was the party’s media handle has also lost its verified blue tick and that handle has now been named as @ShivsenaUBTComm. On Wikipedia, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray is referred to as the ‘erstwhile leader forming Shiv Sena (UBT)’. There is no verified handle called @ShivSena on Twitter now. While the party is still using the same name, ShivSena on its Facebook page which is verified, its official website ShivSena.org too wasn’t working since Saturday. Sena (UBT) functionaries said that the website was undergoing changes. On Friday, soon after the EC’s decision, chief minister Eknath Shinde updated his display picture on Twitter with Shiv Sena’s ‘bow and arrow’ symbol. Shinde had said that the truth had won and that this was a victory of democracy. “The ideology and thoughts of Balasaheb Thackeray and Anand Dighe have won. This is the victory of those MP’s MLAs, office bearers, elected representatives and workers ..lakhs of Shiv Sainiks who have supported Balasaheb’s ideology. Truth has won. This is the victory of democracy and Babasaheb (Ambedkar’s) constitution. The country runs on the basis of the constitution. So based on rules, laws …our government was formed on the basis of the constitution and law. The EC’s decision has come on merit,” Shinde had said. According to Sena functionaries, as per new terms and conditions to minimize confusion and promote integrity, Twitter removes the blue tick whenever a user changes their pr...

'Tarikh Pe Tarikh', says Shiv Sena (UBT) on deferment of SC case

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve on Tuesday said that a game of ‘tarikh pe tarikh’ is on in the party’s case in the Supreme Court pertaining to the power struggle here. Reacting to the SC’s decision on Tuesday to hear the case on February 14, Danve said, “The entire situation is clear, there is a law prohibiting defections, and even the “We hope that on February 14, there will be a decision in the matter,” Danve said, saying he was reminded of a famous Bollywood film dialogue referring to ‘Tarikh Pe Tarikh’ (Date Upon Date), or frequent postponements. Danve also wondered why the Election Commission of India (ECI) was in such a hurry to give its decision on the party name and symbol when the MLAs’ disqualification matter is pending before the SC, especially since this (the state government) is illegal. In New Delhi, Sena (UBT) MP and Chief Spokesperson The Sena (UBT)’s response came after a five-judge SC bench postponed to February 14 the hearing in the case of the rebellion by legislators led by Eknath Shinde in the erstwhile Shiv Sena government headed by Uddhav Thackeray. After the rebels left the party, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government collapsed and on June 30, Shinde was sworn-in as CM.

• • • • Lok Sabha elections: Shiv Sena (UBT) on shaky ground in former strongholds of Maval & Shirur Lok Sabha elections: Shiv Sena (UBT) on shaky ground in former strongholds of Maval & Shirur The two Shiv Sena leaders who have been winning the Maval and Shirur seats, Shrirang Barne and Shivajirao Adhalrao-Patil, have now joined hands with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. With the three key alliance partners of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra undertaking a review of their Lok Sabha constituencies, the Shiv Sena (UBT), like the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), is facing a conundrum in the Maval and Shirur seats, its former strongholds in Pune district. The Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray will first have to ensure that it gets to contest both seats. It then faces the uphill task of finding candidates as two of its key leaders have defected to join Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. “We will contest both Maval and Shirur seats. This is because we have been winning the seats for the last 15 years. We do not intend to give them up… But the final decision will be taken through discussions at the MVA meeting,” Shiv Sena (UBT) MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut told The Indian Express. The Also read | “As per our formula, those who have been winning the seats should get to contest the same seats…Those who till the land have every reason to be its owner.
