By India Today Web Desk: Sonali Bendre's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with a "high-grade cancer" that had metastised. The actress had to leave for the US for treatment with her husband Goldie Behl. Currently, Sonali has taken a small break from her cancer treatment. In a recent interview she revealed that she did not want to go to New York. "I didn't want to go to New York. It was my husband who wanted to go. And I fought with him all through the flight. 'Why are you doing this? We have good doctors here. Why are you taking me away?' My home, my life... in three days, we literally just packed and left and, I don't know, what was happening. "I was like let's, at least, speak to the doctors here and he was just quiet through the whole thing and focussed. In the day, he was organising and, in the night, as New York was wake; so he was organising, so day and night--he was at that. So I got him and actually cribbed about the whole thing, on the flight. Through the flight, I have cribbed; I was really venting," revealed Sonali. However, the gravity of the situation hit her when she read the reports. "I land in New York and next day, we go to the doctor. He looks at everything and we had sent all our tests and he says, you know, it is fourth stage and you have 30% chance of survival. Sonali and filmmaker Goldie Behl married on November 12, 2002. In August 2005, they became parents to son Ranveer Behl.

Sonali believes she was ‘trapped in a certain image’ for most of her acting career. “I was very excited for The Broken News because I had taken a break from fiction after my son was born as I wanted to spend more time with him. I wanted to return to fiction for a little while now, but was unhappy with the work I was being offered. Sometimes, I felt I was trapped in a certain image, even though I had evolved from there and I needed to do the sort of work that had grown with me. This is not to take away the person and the actor I was — that’s what has made me what I am today, but I needed more. It is not easy to break into that, I think. And, then there was the illness, there was About being “trapped in a certain image”, Sonali says, “I don’t think playing a romantic role or being the girl-next-door is not fierce, but I wanted to play my age. It is liberating to be able to play what I am at this point of time, I don’t want to hold on to the past. Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) Actor Sonali Bendre is set to enter the streaming space with The Broken News, an upcoming original drama series from the streamer ZEE5. The show, an adaptation of the popular 2018 British series Press, will also feature Paatal Lok star Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar, who recently starred in the Prime Video show Guilty Minds. The Broken News will be directed by Vinay Waikul, who had recently helmed the crime-thriller Netflix series Aranyak. According to the makers, the show follows the story of two rival Mumbai-based news channels - Awaaz Bharati, an independent, ethical news channel, and Josh 24/7 News, which offers sensationalist and invasive journalism and "what transpires between the main characters in their quest for news". It was unreal to sit there and see patients going in and I could see that I had been through a similar journey... saw the chemotherapy suite, the same waiting room, faces were different…” shared the actress. An emotional Sonali went on to describe the feeling of beating the big C and wrote, “I felt like telling the patients that there’s HOPE, and I am there on the other side and look at me today I have come in for a visit on the other side of the spectrum… It was, as you can guess, a very bittersweet, emotional day.I stepped out, looked my son in the eye, with the sunshine on my face and thanked the universe for everything.” Sonali announced the news of her metastatic cancer in a tweet in 2018.
