Ambulance in 8 Mins? Meet The Man Bringing Emergency Care to Your Door ASAP

If business entities in India can deliver groceries in 10 minutes, shouldn’t they be able to deliver the same for medical emergencies? Prabhdeep Singh, CEO and co-founder of StanPlus, which calls itself “pioneers in private ambulance services”, believes it should be easier to dispatch ambulances for patients in need than delivering groceries. (Image above of StanPlus CEO and co-founder Prabhdeep Singh) “Delivering groceries in 10 minutes is a far more complex problem to solve than ambulances. This is because an ambulance is a dark store, where all the inventory is already stored. All operators have to do is make sure they move as soon as the call comes. In terms of groceries, someone has to go to a dark store, pick up the items and then deliver it to someone. In our setup, only one step is required — moving from Point A to B. If you do your fleet mapping properly, which includes mapping where people live and where emergencies largely occur, you can create stations nearby to ensure your ambulance arrives in 10 minutes or less. It’s an easier problem to solve than groceries,” says Prabhdeep, speaking to The Better India. Of course, he does acknowledge that it’s not just a problem of logistics. “Clinically it’s a difficult problem to solve. That’s why we are building this system with a clinical mindset and not just looking at logistics. We are building StanPlus as a Clin-Ops company,” he adds. What StanPlus does is aggregate and standardise hospital ambulances from private op...

StanPlus, An Ambulance Service Provider

While everyone, including medical staff, are ensuring the treatment of COVID-19 patients, it becomes equally important to get the patients to the hospitals on time. And this is where StanPlus steps in. A Hyderabad-based ambulance service provider, founded in 2016 by France Antoine Poirson, Jose Leon, and Prabhdeep Singh, that provides patients immediate support for emergency and help them reach hospital on time. They have partnered with 13 hospitals so far and have four types of vans – Patient Transport Vehicle (a small or large van for patients who are in stable condition and just need oxygen), Basic Life Support (a large van with key basic medical facilities), Advanced Life Support (a large van with equipment for unstable patients) and Medical Utility Vehicle (a van that helps the movement & transfer of patients like giving access to a wheelchair). PS: If the patient has a confirmation of Covid-19 and has to move from private hospital to government hospital, they have created certain protocols on how they will manage the transfer with all the precautions. Plus, the vans are sanitised every day and the workers are periodically checked. If someone cannot afford to pay the amount, it is either paid by the facility or is waived off as a charity gesture.

Here's why this emergency ambulance service start

Highlighting the unmet need of quick availability of ambulances in India, emergency ambulance service start-up StanPlus has witnessed a growth in demand at a CAGR of 43.10 per cent in the last three years. The start-up has so far raised $22.6 million and is present in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Raipur, Bhuvneshwar, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. The company is focusing on expanding its offerings across 15 cities this year, and simultaneously reducing its ETAs and improving clinical outcomes from current 15 minutes. “We have served close to 140,000 patients so far and have grown to 184 per cent since 2016,” said Prabhdeep Singh, founder and CEO of StanPlus. The demand for emergency and quality ambulances has always been high in India . According to a report published by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), 98.5 per cent of ambulances in India exist to carry dead bodies, 90 per cent of ambulances are without any equipment/oxygen, 95 per cent of ambulances have untrained personnel, most of the doctors having no formal training in emergency medical services (EMS), misuse of government ambulances and 30 per cent mortality is due to delay in emergency care. “Although India's healthcare industry is improving and reaching top-tier standards, the country's emergency medical response system is sadly falling behind. Overall, the segment presents a significant room for development because it is disconnected, disorganised, and has poor response mechanisms. Lack of access to train...
