About Surdas Surdas is one of the people who had great influence on the cultural heritage of India. He was a poet, a saint and a musician and played all the parts with the same finesse. Since there are no authentic records on the life of Surdas, his biography comes up as a combination of facts and fiction. Early Life There is a little disagreement regarding the exact birth date of Surdas, some scholars believe it to be 1478 AD, while others believe it to be 1479 AD. Same is the case of the year of his death, it is either considered to be 1581 AD or 1584 AD. As per the limited authentic life history of Surdas, it is said that he lived in Braj, near Mathura. Surdas was born blind and because of this, he was neglected by his family. As a result, he left his home at tender age of six. Meeting Shri Vallabharacharya In the eighteenth year of his life, Surdas went to Gau Ghat, a sacred bathing spot on the embankments of Yamuna River. It was here that he came across Shri Vallabharacharya, the great saint-savant. Vallabharacharya advised Surdas to sing Bhagvat Lila, the Creative Play of the Lord and introduced him to the secrets of contemplative devotion. From this time onwards, Surdas never looked back on the path of spirituality. Surdas spent the last years of his life in Braj, the place of his birth. अनुक्रम (Contents) • • • • • • • • सूरदास का जीवन परिचय (Surdas biography in Hindi) Surdas ka jeevan parichay हिन्दी साहित्य के भक्तकालीन कवियों में सूरदास (Surdas) का स्थान सर्वोपरि है। सूरदास (Surdas) भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के अनन्य उपासक थे. ये ब्रजभाषा के सर्वश्रेष्ठ कवि माने जाते हैं। सूरदास (Surdas)जी को वात्सल्य रस का सम्राट माना जाता है। उन्होंने श्रृंगार और शान्त रसों का भी बड़ा मर्मस्पर्शी वर्णन किया है. हिंदी साहित्य के आकाश में महाकवि सूरदास की ख्याति सूर्य की तरह है. इनके बारे में एक दोहा बहुत प्रचलित है सूर सूर तुलसी ससि, उडुगण केशवदास । अबके कवि खद्योत सम, जहँ तहँ करत प्रकाश ।। जीवन परिचय सूरदास (Surdas) का जन्म 1540 (वि. स.) में रुनकता नामक गाँव में हुआ। यह गाँव मथुरा-आगरा मार्ग के किनारे स्थित है। कुछ विद्वानों का मत है कि सूर का जन्म सीही नामक ग्राम में एक निर्धन सारस्वत ब्राह्मण परिवार में हुआ था. वे बहुत विद्वान थे, उनकी लोग आज भी चर्चा करते है. सूरदास (Surdas) के पिता, रामदास गायक थे। सूरदास के जन्मांध होने के विषय में मतभेद है। प्रारंभ में सूरदास आगरा के समीप गऊघाट पर रहते थे और वहीं उनकी भेंट श्री वल्लभाचार्य से हुई. वे उनके शिष्य बन गए। वल्लभाचार्य ने उनको पुष्टिमार्ग में दीक्षित कर के कृष्णलीला के पद गाने का आदेश दिया। सूरदास की मृत्यु गोवर्धन के निकट पारसौली ग्राम में 1620 (वि. स.) में हुई। ‘चौरासी वैष्णव की वार्ता’ के वर्णन के अनुसार उनका जन्म रुनकता अथवा रेणु का क्षेत्र (वर्तमान जिला आगरा के अंतर्गत) में हुआ था। मथुरा और आगरा के बीच गऊघाट पर ये निवास करते थे। बल्लभाचार्य से इनकी भेंट वहीं पर हुई थी। “भावप्रकाश’ में सूर का जन्म स्थान सीही नामक ग्राम बता...

Early Life of Sant Surdas The time of Surdas's birth and death are uncertain and suggest that he lived over a hundred years, which make the facts even murkier. Some say he was born blind in 1479 in Siri village near Delhi. Many others believe, Surdas was born in Braj, a holy place in the northern Indian district of Mathura, associated with the exploits of Lord Krishna. His family was too poor to take good care of him, which led the blind boy to leave home at the tender age of 6 to join a wandering group of religious musicians. According to one legend, one night he dreamt of Krishna, who asked him to go to Vrindavan, and dedicate his life to the praise of the Lord. Surdas's Guru - Shri Vallabharachary A chance meeting with the saint Vallabharacharya at Gau Ghat by the river Yamuna in his teens transformed his life. Shri Vallabhacharya taught Surdas lessons in Hindu philosophy and meditation and put him on the path of spirituality. Since Surdas could recite the entire Srimad Bhagavatam and was musically inclined, his guru advised him to sing the 'Bhagavad Lila' - devotional lyrical ballads in praise of Surdas Attains Fame Surdas' lilting music and fine poetry attracted many laurels.
