A large fire that started in a multi-story business complex in Hyderabad may have resulted in the deaths of up to six individuals, including women. The victims allegedly passed away after breathing in heavy smoke. At 7:30 p.m., a short circuit caused the fire to start on the Swapnalok Complex's fifth floor. 13 individuals were trapped inside; 7 were safely evacuated, but the remaining 6 perished from exposure to the heavy smoke. SECUNDERABAD: Six persons including four women died after inhaling smoke after a major fire broke out in the multi-story Swapnalok commercial complex in Secunderabad on Thursday. As per reports, the fire started around 7:30 pm on Thursday evening in the eight-storied complex which is more than a 40-year-old structure that houses 250 private offices, shops, and commercial establishments. More than 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire which was brought under control by midnight on Thursday. Firemen found the six of them in an unconscious condition in a room on the fifth floor. They removed the grills of the windows and brought them out and were immediately taken to Gandhi Hospital. But the doctors there declared that they were already dead. Another person named Prashanth, who was undergoing treatment in another hospital, also passed away. They seemed to have died of asphyxiation while inhaling the smoke and the victims belonged to the Warangal, Mahabubabad, and Khammam districts of Telangana and were recently employed in a marketing company. According to police officials, at least two-four persons are feared trapped inside the complex. Syed Rafique, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North Zone told ANI that fire tenders are on the spot and rescue operation is underway. "A fire broke out at around 7.30 pm. Immediately fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Presently six fire tenders are pressed into the service, but we will call more if needed," he said. As per the police officer, the reason behind the fire is a short circuit. Telangana minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav also arrived at the spot. "A fire accident occured, and immediately our firefighting officials reached the spot. Till now 11 people have been rescued and the fire is under control," the minister told ANI.
