Fire breaks out at Swapnalok Complex in Secunderabad, over a dozen feared trapped

Fire DG Fire Department DG Y Nagi Reddy visited the spot and was briefed by the officials about the incident. “On receiving the call, we immediately reached the spot and rescued 12 persons. However, during further search operations, we realized there were still six persons in a room, who had fallen unconscious. They were shifted to the hospital, were they died,” Nagi Reddy said. Though there was fire safety equipment in place, it was not operational. “The building set back was good and thus our personnel were able to bring in the bronto vehicle and fight the fire,” the DG said. It can be recalled that the fire department personnel had few days back convened a meeting in regard with the fire safety norms at all establishments. “Our officials had recently inspected the complex and warned them to set up fire systems, but they did not act in time,” the DG added. Clues Team The Clues Team visited the spot and collected samples. Preliminary investigation revealed a short circuit led to the fire. Hyderabad: Six people were killed and another critically injured after a massive fire broke out at Swapnalok Complex, a popular business center in Secunderabad, on Thursday evening, Ten people were safely rescued. The fire started at 6.45 pm. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical short circuit. The fire started on the fifth floor and quickly spread to other floors of the building. Fourteen people were trapped in the complex at the time of the incident. The building was filled with thick smoke which hindered the evacuation operation. With only one narrow staircase for the entire complex, escape was difficult for all occupants. Some of those trapped shouted for help. Some used their cell phone lights to signal their perilous situation. The complex also has a few homes in the building, and a police constable is one of the resident. Fire department officials and the rescue team launched the rescue operation. The fire brigade and DRF officials were able to rescue 10 individuals using a Bronto skylift vehicle. Three people were safely brought down from the fifth floor. Six people were still trapped in the store room of their office. Among those trapped were Tukaramgate police constable Ravi and his parents. Ten other people were trapped in an e-commerce office on the fifth floor. Meanwhile, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, the Minister for Animal Husbandry, announced that strict action would be taken against the building owner and other responsible parties for failing to take adequate precautions. Talasani expressed sorrow over the Swapnalok fire incident and visited Gandhi Hospital with Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali to console the families of the deceased. The Minister directed the authorities to make all necessary arrangements for the transfer of bodies to their respective native locations after the post-mortem examination. Talasani said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the bereaved families and would provide them with all possible support during this difficult time. A case has already been filed and is being investigated, according to Talasani. The Mahankali police have registered a case of negligence causing death against the complex owner and association and are conducting an investigation. According to GHMC Commissioner D S Lokesh Kumar, the building is an old, existing high-rise commercial building that has been occupied by various commercial establishments. By Express News Service HYDERABAD: In the wake of the fire that claimed the lives of six persons employed with Hong Kong-based QNet, managing director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), VC Sajjannar, who had investigated the firm in 2019 during his stint as the Cyberabad commissioner of police, on Saturday, demanded suo moto legal action against the company. He also termed the activities of the multi-level marketing (MLM) firm as illegal. Taking to Twitter, Sajjannar demanded that law enforcement agencies take suo moto legal action against QNet to prevent further crimes. “Law enforcement agencies also need to have surveillance over the activities of such fraudulent MLM companies and take suo moto legal action to prevent further crimes. My stand is very firm. QNet is illegal (sic),” he said.
