Tanvi Rao: I am stirred by minimalism and simplicity

Based in Bengaluru, Tanvi���s sultry voice is a heady mix of Nancy Sinatra���s version of ���Bang Bang��� and earthy flavour. A composer alongside husband Rahul Giri, who is a producer and composer for their project Do you remember your first performance? My first performance was in Chennai. I was so nervous, my knees shook and my teeth chattered. I closed my eyes and clung on to the mic for my life and got through it. Tell us about your collaboration with your husband ��� the agreements, disagreements, among other things. We met in college and set out with the project three years after completing our education. Initially, we would fight a lot over music, given we both are Type A personalities. But eventually, everything worked out well, all thanks to him. He forced me out of my comfort zone and I am grateful to him for that. What���s the significance of the name, Sulk Station? Rahul used to call me that because I sulk a lot and he is no less. Ironically, we have stopped sulking and become happier since we got together. The name remains, though. What and who inspires you and influences your work? I am constantly looking up to people, including my family, other musicians, my teachers, friends and colleagues. When I was in school, I would imitate handwritings, mannerisms and anything else that inspired me. Currently, I am stirred by minimalism and simplicity in living, thought and music.
