Telangana: Seven MLC seats to fall vacant in 2023, BRS to nominate leaders to quell infighting

• The six year tenure of the current members will come to an end in March and May of 2023. • There has been some discontent in the party lately with many complaining about not getting nominated posts. • Those who were defeated in 2018 assembly polls are asking for tickets to contest 2023 Assembly elections. Seven Legislative Council (MLC) seats will fall vacant in the first half of 2023 in Telangana and BRS, the ruling party intends to nominate leaders who have not been given tickets to prevent infighting, ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections. The six year tenure of the current members will come to an end in March and May of 2023. Many leaders who did not get party posts or those who could not be accommodated in the cabinet will be given priority, as per Tv9 Telugu. There has been some discontent in the party lately with many complaining about not getting nominated posts and their due recognition within the party. On March 29, three seats will fall vacant under the MLAs quota as BRS MLCs K Naveen Kumar, V Gangadhar Goud and Elimeneti Krishna Reddy will retire while two seats will fall vacant on May 27 under the governor’s quota with the retirement of D Rajeswara Rao and Farooq Raq Hussain. Elections to 15 MLC seats in Telugu states on March 13

Biennial elections to 15 seats of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and Telangana Legislative Council will be held on March 13. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced the schedule for 13 seats of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and two seats of Telangana Legislative Council. The elections will be held for eight local authorities' constituencies, three graduates' and two teachers' constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. Polling will also be held for one teachers' constituency and one local authorities' constituency in Telangana. The ECI announced that notifications for these elections will be issued on February 16. The last date for filing of nominations will be February 23. The nominations will be taken up for scrutiny the next day. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be February 27. Polling will be held on March 13. The counting of votes will be taken up on March 16. The ECI announced that the model code of conduct concerning these elections will come into force with immediate effect in the concerned constituencies. The TRS candidates won in the first round of votes itself. The TRS candidates got more than 50 per cent votes out of the total votes polled for winning the seat. All other candidates are eliminated automatically. The officials are expected to declare the elections officially in a short while. Of the 12 MLC seats for which elections are conducted, the ruling TRS won six seats unopposed. The irony is that the voters, elected representatives of local bodies like MPTCs and ZPTCs, are unable to caste their votes properly. As a result over 50 votes in each segment became invalid. Most of the invalid votes belong to the TRS. The results were declared on December 14. The electorate consisted of elected local body representatives, including elected members of urban and rural local bodies from six constituencies in five local area segments in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Medak, and Nalgonda. Polling was held for two seats in Karimnagar district and one each in the remaining four districts. There were 26 candidates in the electoral battle and a total of 5,326 eligible voters. The Election Commission had issued notification for election to the six seats of the Legislative Council from local authority constituencies in November. Earlier, Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K. In Adilabad, TRS candidate Dande Vittal won with a majority of 667 votes. In Khammam, Thatha Madhu won the MLC seat with 480 votes. The TRS party secured 480 votes in Khammam while Congress got 242 votes and four votes were polled for an independent candidate and 12 votes were dismissed. In Nalgonda, MLC Koti Reddy won with a margin of 691 votes. The TRS candidate Koti Reddy got 917 votes and the remaining votes were secured by the independent candidates Nagesh (226), Lakshmaiah (26), Venkateshwarlu (6) and Ramsingh (5) and 50 votes were cancelled.
