Regional Transport Office (RTO)

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) also known as Regional Transport Authority (RTA) is responsible for maintaining the complete database of the vehicles as well as drivers for all the states of India. It was formed in 1988 when Motor Vehicles Department was established under section 213(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act. . This department is headed by the Transport Commissioner. In India every state and city has their own RTO (Regional Transport Office) and they are responsible to carry out all the functional activities that are laid out in Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
