Vande Mataram : The National Song of India

‘Vande Mataram’ is well known as the National Song of our country. Utterance of the words ‘Vande Mataram’ gave freedom fighters and the common public the strength to withstand lathi blows on their heads and whiplashes on their open bodies. It was these words themselves that made the English rage with anger. Curzon’s chela, i.e. the Governor of Bengal had imposed a legal ban on uttering the words ‘Vande Mataram’. This ban resulted in ‘Vande Mataram’ getting nationwide importance. It became a National Mahamantra. th June) Lyrics of Vande Mataram । ५ ।। । Meaning of Vande Mataram by Sri Aurobindo Mother, I bow to thee! The two most beautiful stanzas of the original Vande Mataram song were officially declared the National Song of India in 1950 after the independence. History of National Song of India Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, also known as Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, was India’s famous novelist and a great poet. He had written the Vande Mataram song ( on 7th November in 1875), from which the National Song of India was taken officially. The two words of the song, i.e., “Vande Mataram,” have become words of great importance for our nation. ‎Vande Mataram by A.R. Rahman on Apple Music

In 1997, A. R. Rahman undertook this project as a celebration of India's 50th anniversary of independence. Singing most of the songs himself, he enlisted an international cast of collaborators—including Sting's guitarist Dominic Miller and Qawwali legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan—to craft an Indian pop phenomenon. The shimmering "Maa Tujhe Salaam" practically became the country’s new national anthem, and Khan's fluid, passionate performance on the pop-oriented "Gurus of Peace" made the recording—one of his last—especially memorable.
