In his new Telugu film Waltair Veerayya, directed by K S Ravindra aka Bobby Kolli, when Chiranjeevi says ‘records lo naa peru undadam kaadu, naa peru meede records untayi’ (it is not about my name being in the records, records are written in my name), amid loud cheers of course, it is an undeniable assertion of the sway he has had over mainstream Telugu cinema in his career of more than four decades. The writers — Bobby, Kona Venkat and Chakravarthy Reddy — dip generously into Chiranjeevi’s blockbusters of the past to evoke nostalgia. As an added bonus, their story has room for Ravi Teja — another star who has cemented his place in the masala genre. The writers’ fanboy tribute to these stars has a few fun segments, but the narrative that anchors it is patchy. Chiranjeevi plays Waltair Veerayya, a fisherman in Vizag who smuggles luxury goods and wears bright, floral shirts. Even before we see him on screen, his voice sends a goon into a panic spin and makes him drop his lungi! Synopsis A notorious smuggler Waltair Veerayya is hired by a CI Seethapathi, reaches Malaysia with the ostensible mission of kidnapping a drug mafia leader named Solomon, who escaped India after wreaking havoc on the RAW agents and local policemen. Veerayya manages to pummel Solomon, who is fiercely protected by his ruthless gang-lord brother Kaala. Tables are turned, when Veerayya reveals that he shares a turbulent past with Kaala & an ACP Vikram Sagar who is hell-bent on ending his smuggling activities.

Seethapathi's brother-in-law gets impatient and prompts Seethapathi to follow Caesar on their own without Veerayya's knowledge, only to get caught by Caesar. Later, Veerayya gets invited by Caesar to his private party where a group of masked assassins attempt to nab Caesar, but their plans are foiled by Veerayya, who later realises that they are the hotel staff. They reveal themselves as RAW agents, led by Athidhi. Caesar expresses his admiration for Veerayya and offers to ask him anything in return for saving his life. Veerayya asks him to come back to India and Caesar agrees, but soon finds out about their ploy and they get busted. As Caesar assaults Athithi for information with his elder brother Michael Solomon on Past: Four years ago, Michael, in disguise as a fisherman named Kaala, acts as Veerayya's friend and confidant. Without Veerayya's knowledge, Michael supplies drugs from the former's ice factory. On Monday, unveiled the title song of the movie. The song was composed by Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad with Brass Orchestra Section recorded by Bangkok musicians and energetic singing by Anurag Kulkarni. Boss Party and Nuvvu Sridevi Nenu Chiranjeevi from the album were already chartbusters. Now, the title track of the movie is getting a positive response from the audience. Ravi Teja is playing a pivotal role in the movie where Shruti Haasan will be seen as the leading lady opposite Chiranjeevi. The film is produced on a grand scale by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers, while GK Mohan is the co-producer.
