watchOS 10 brings automatic Night Mode to the Apple Watch Ultra

9to5Mac has Apple Watch Ultra includes a hardware-exclusive face called Wayfinder. This watch face includes a clock bezel that can display location coordinates and elevation data, leveraging the new dual-frequency GPS hardware inside the watch. Currently, Wayfinder is capable of shifting its standard color mode to a black and red version: The biggest and brightest AppleWatch display. The Always‑On Retina display is 2000 nits at its peak and twice as bright as any other AppleWatch. The bigger display provides more room for workout metrics and detail‑packed watch faces. The Wayfinder face lets you rotate the DigitalCrown to activateNightMode for better viewing in low light situations. Apple As Apple explains, switching between modes is done by spinning the crown. The new widget area uses this input method in watchOS 10. How does Apple Watch Ultra handle the conflict? Summoning gestures takes the crown, and toggling in and out of Night Mode has been banished to the basement of watch face customization. It takes many more steps, potentially meaning Ultra customers are less likely to use it. On the other hand, displaying Night Mode in the watch face customizer makes it more discoverable than a hidden gesture. Regardless of which method is preferred, there’s now a third mode that just might make all the shuffling around worth it. Auto Night Mode is new to Apple Watch Ultra in watchOS 10, and how it works is pretty sweet. Human eyes don’t require manual mode switching to adjust to...

Apple Watch Ultra Review: Silicon Valley's Best Smartwatch Dropped, Drowned, and Frozen

The Apple Watch Ultra comes with new features and upgrades that amount to more than a simple revision. Say what you will about Apple — like it or not, its products have helped popularize (if not always advance) the field of wearable tech. And with its latest model, the $799 Apple Watch Ultra, the company has its sights firmly set on the outdoor and fitness markets. Look, I’ll admit I’m a cynic. I distrust cults of personality, and Apple’s got a big one. Yet the Ultra, with its new chassis, upgraded sensors, and revised GPS looked to be more of a genuine step forward, as opposed to an obligatory yearly release. So when the company reached out to offer a loaner for testing, I agreed. Mountains, like prejudices, are there to be overcome. And the Apple Watch Ultra, with its intrepid aspirations, took me on a hell of an adventure. In short: The Apple Watch Ultra is a stunningly good piece of tech. Its construction, interface, and features are each geared toward adventurous users. And the extended (though still perhaps not best-in-class) battery life goes a long way toward encouraging you to get outdoors. Take it from a skeptic — the Ultra is worth the cost. Apple Watch Ultra review: The best watch Apple has ever created

At Apple’s September 2022 event, the company unveiled a completely new version of the Apple Watch: the Apple Watch Ultra. The company positioned it as a smartwatch for the adventurer. Whether you are a runner, a biker, a hiker, or a diver, the Ultra was built to handle the extreme conditions that you find yourself in when you need a smartwatch to perform without worry. I’ve had every generation of the Apple Watch since it released the second generation (you know, when it wasn’t slow as molasses). I’ve been using the Apple Watch Ultra for the last six months now and, after experiencing the difference between it and a regular Apple Watch, I can say with confidence that it's the Let’s talk about why in this long-term review of the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple Watch Ultra: Price and availability The Apple Watch Ultra is $799, there's only one model, and each band option costs the same. At that price, the Apple Watch Ultra is less expensive than any of the Apple Watch Hermès models and slightly more expensive than most of the stainless steel Apple Watch Series 8 models. And the Apple Watch Ultra is significantly less costly than previous Apple Watch Edition models that also featured a titanium body. (Image credit: Future) I remember when I first saw the design of the Apple Watch Ultra when Apple unveiled it with its always over-the-top product introduction video. I…was not impressed. It looked more like a piece of high-end cookware than a high-tech adventure smartwatch. My first im...

Apple Watch Ultra Review: The Most Exciting Watch in Years

2022 Editors' note, Nov. 16:Apple has rolled out a low-power mode for workouts which extends the Apple Watch Ultra's battery life even further. Along with its great fitness-tracking features, bright screen and durable design, we've awarded the Apple Watch Ultra an Editors' Choice. Our review, originally published in September, follows. Even if you're not an endurance athlete, there's still plenty of reasons you might want the $799 (£849, AU$1,299) Apple Watch Ultra. It has a bigger battery, more durable titanium casing and a screen that's twice as bright as the Then there's the hefty price, which is $400 more than the 41mm GPS Apple Watch Series 8 and could have you wondering whether the Ultra really is worth that much more. Even if you don't consider yourself an adventurer, there might be enough here to justify the cost -- especially if you want a more-durable watch with increased water resistance and battery life that's at least twice as long as other Apple Watch models. Considering the $749 45mm Apple Watch Series 8 in stainless steel costs almost as much, I think the Ultra is a better overall value, given that you get additional hardware features like the Action button (which I've come to love), an emergency siren and extra microphones to boost call quality. Buy an Apple Watch Ultra interest-free with monthly payments on the Apple Card Apple Watch Ultra design is big and bold The Ultra is a souped-up Apple Watch in every respect. All the familiar elements are here, jus...
