Kolkata may see a dry Poila Baishak, RMC warns of heat strokes till April 15

While all the districts of Bengal are already witnessing temperatures two to three degrees above normal, dry northwesterly winds blowing into the region are likely to further increase it by an additional two to three degrees by Saturday. The RMC has warned against long-term exposure to the outdoors until then. • People should wear light, breezy clothes and stay hydrated. • Heat cramps and heat rashes may appear around noon, accompanied by a burning sensation on the skin. • The advisory also focuses on recognising the signs of a heat stroke and seeking a doctor immediately upon experiencing nausea, dizziness, vomiting, rashes or seizures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) declares a heatwave if the maximum temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius in the plains, is substantially above the normal and has been continuing for at least two consecutive days. Observing the approaching weather systems, the RMC will issue heat wave warnings in advance.
