Where did God come from? Billy Graham answers

Thank you for your question–and I hope you will always want to know more about God. God loves you and wants to help you and be your friend every day of your life. God had no beginning (just as He will have no end); He has always existed, and He always will. (That’s why He had no father or mother.) I know that’s hard for us to understand, because everything we see around us had a beginning. Even the universe–the stars, the galaxies, even the atoms you can’t see that make up everything in the world–all had a beginning. But God had no beginning. The Bible says, “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 40:28). And God also never changes or grows old. Have you ever noticed how everything around you changes? People and animals change and grow old; trees grow up and die; even rocks eventually weather and disintegrate. But God never changes; as the Bible says, “I the Lord do not change” (Malachi 3:6). This is one reason why you can depend on Him, because He’ll never change His mind or go back on His promises. But the most important truth I can tell you about God is that He loves you, and He wants you to know Him and be His friend. How do I know this? I know it because God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to show us His love. And right now Jesus wants to come into your life and make you part of His family forever. Ask Him to come into your heart today–and He will.

No one made The Bible tells us that God is eternal and unchanging. • Psalm 90:2, “Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” • Malachi 3:6, “For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.” As a Christian, I stand on God’s inspired word and must tell you what He has revealed about Himself in those pages. The two verses above should be sufficient to answer the question “who made God”? The answer is, as I said before, no one made God. He is “from everlasting to everlasting,” and He “does not change.” If He does not change, then He must have always been. But, some might not be satisfied with such a succinct and biblically-based response. So, let’s take a look at the issue logically. Logically, no one made God There are logical problems when we examine the issue of who made God. Let’s begin with the assumption a lot of people make that “everything that exists was caused to exist.” This statement has at least two logical difficulties. First, we do not k...

Who Created God? Is God Outside of Time?

Who created God? Is God outside of time? Is God uncaused? Since we know the universe is not eternal, how can an eternal Creator God exist? Who Created God? I have had unbelievers say that if the universe was created by God then who created God? That is actually a great question and I don’t take it as an insult to my belief in God but actually as a question that rightly deserves an answer. The laws of physics demand a cause for every effect or you could put it this way: For every effect, there is a cause. It seems ridiculous to believe that the universe created itself and so it also seems ludicrous to believe that God was created. If this is so, then there must have been a creator behind the created God. Then if such a creature created God, then that creature must have also been created. Thus we are creating an infinite regression of causes and causers. Some atheists, agnostics, and evolutionists believe that life on earth was brought to the planet by some alien force or object. The object could have been – so they believe – been brought to earth by an asteroid. But then the question becomes “Then where did this life come from” and on and on again, into infinity ad nauseum. This only pushes the question of the origin of life back and back and back… If some say that it was not God Who created man, but man who created God, then we must ask, then who created man? If some say that it was not God Who created man, but man who created God, then we must ask, then who created man? C...

If God Created Us, Then Who Created God?

A lot of believers may have wondered where God came from. Non-believers use this as an attack against Christians. How are we to believe in a God if we don’t even know where He came from? Some religions even make up an origin story for Him though it is unbiblical. So who created God? Michael Morejon What a great question, and what a difficult one at that! God has always been. Eternity is a concept that we as human beings lack the wisdom and understanding to fully grasp. We are beings that flow in what is called Time, and God lives in Eternity. In Heaven, time just doesn’t exist. The Bible says that “a day is like a thousand years” ( Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” There is no time in eternity. It doesn’t exist. God doesn’t have a beginning, middle and end like we do (birth, adulthood, old age then death). He has always been, and always will be. He will never be removed, nor shaken by anything. He is our Eternal Father. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” He is the Maker of the universe. There must always be a start, right? If someone or something made God, then who made that other thing? The list would go on and on, which is the question to me about the Big Bang. Who started that? No matter what, we end up back to God. The fact that we are here and that our world is so perfect in its creation (I’m tal...

Q&A: Who Created God?

On this Q&A episode of the Reasonable Theology podcast we’re tackling a listener question submitted by a young man named Kyler: “My question is how to explain to somebody that God didn’t have a creator without them questioning you, ‘Well who created God?'” On this episode you’ll hear an answer to the question “Who created God?” Hopefully, this will help you to think more biblically about how the Creator is distinct from His Creation, and how you be more confident in answering similar questions. Subscribe • • Answering the Question “Who Created God?” Thank you, Kyler for listening to the podcast and for submitting your question! As we think about how to answer a question like this, its important to note that our claim is that everything that began to exist – everything that was created – has to have a cause or a creator. And so some will respond to this claim by asking “then who created God?” This is a good question and one that can leave Christians feeling stumped on how best to answer. However, notice something important about this claim. We do not say that everything that exists has to have a cause, but everything that began to exist has a cause. Every effect must have a cause, every creation must have a creator. But God does not have a cause or a creator because He has always existed. He is eternal; He has no beginning and no end. Part of what it means for God to be God is that He is the uncreated Creator. He is the uncaused cause of all things. He has to be, or He woul...
