(2021 Getty Images) In the freestyle 57kg division, world champion Thomas Gilman is the man to beat. The USA grappler has consistently secured podiums since winning bronze at Tokyo 2020, but he will have to be at his best to beat Indian Olympic silver medallist Ravi Kumar, who was recently crowned Asian champion. After failing to qualify for the USA’s Olympic team in 2021, Jordan Burroughs rebounded by moving up to 79kg and winning the 2021 World Championships title less than a month after tearing his calf muscle. The evergreen London 2012 Olympic champion is odds on to defend his title in Belgrade and extend his legacy as one of USA’s most successful freestyle wrestlers ever with a sixth world title overall. Team USA Men's Freestyle Updates At The 2022 World Championships

We'll recap the sessions in reverse chronological order, so the most recent session is the first thing you'll see, with older sessions appearing subsequently. Day 4 Session 1 The first session of Day 4 of the men's freestyle tournament is also the last session of the entire event here in Belgrade. Hard to believe it'll all be over after three sets of medal matches, but that's what's happening! The first piece of relevant news of the day was Gross's bronze medal match would unfortunately not be as competitive, as Harutyunyan jumped out to an early lead and never let off the gas. Gross was unable to work a slide by from a two-on-one and never got an opportunity to work on top in par terre. Despite the 12-0 drubbing in his final match of the tournament, Gross registered a high-quality win over Atli of Turkey and pushed eventual champ, Rei Higuchi, to the limit. The finals were also not without excitement but also ended in a downer. In an early flurry between Also the Iranian 97 got pinned in the bronze medal match. Not gloating, just saying, the Iranian fans, for as great as they are, were also calling for passivity on every American all the time, even when it was patently absurd, like in Snyder's finals match. So I'm going to indulge in a small, harmless dose of pettiness. Oh yeah, and the team title is still coming back to the US of A. Hell yeah. And that's a wrap on Belgrade. Awesome job everyone. Including you wrestling fans, who are the most important people in this enti...

Final X men’s freestyle preview: Olympic champions Burroughs, Taylor, Snyder, Steveson highlight incredibly deep field set for Newark

Photo: Jordan Burroughs hoists the U.S. flag after winning the 2022 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. (Tony Rotundo/wrestlersarewarriors.com) The men’s freestyle pairings at Final X feature some serious star power, perhaps more than we’ve ever seen at this stage of the U.S. World Team qualification process. Eight competitors earned a medal at the 2022 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Seven Olympic medalists, including four Olympic champions, will grace the Final X mats at Prudential Center. 16-of-20 competitors are past NCAA champions, six of whom were awarded the Dan Hodge Trophy as the nation’s top college wrestler. The June 10 lineup has the potential to be one of the greatest set of matches in a single night in U.S. wrestling history. We will summarize each pairing in weight order, which is how the matches will be conducted at Final X. 57 kg – Thomas Gilman (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC/Titan Mercury WC) vs. Zane Richards (Champaign, Ill./Illinois RTC/Titan Mercury WC) The 57 kg men’s freestyle weight class has been owned by Thomas Gilman in recent years. Gilman has represented the U.S. in five of the previous six World Championships or Olympic Games, earning four total medals during that stretch. Most notably, he was a World champion in 2021 and an Olympic bronze medalist in 2020. Last year, Gilman came up one win short of his second-straight World title, falling to Albania’s ZelimkhanAbakarov, a Russian transplant, in the World finals. The silver...
