Stone pelting impairs 30 panes of Vande Bharat

AGRA: Two months ago, operations of the Vande Bharat train from Bhopal to Delhi via Agra commenced with a grand ceremony. However in recent incidents of stone pelting, at least 30 window panes and door glass have been damaged. So far, 16 of these window panes have been replaced, and 14 have been temporarily fixed using tape and adhesive. The appearance of cracks on the window panes has caused inconvenience to passengers and raised concerns about their safety. Bhopal division railway officials have claimed that a majority of the stone pelting incidents took place on the route from Delhi to Agra. But the Agra division railway officials claimed no such incidents have been reported. According to rail officials, the carriage and wagon depot workers in Bhopal had complained to authorities about repeated damage caused to window panes and glass on doors of the Bhopal-Delhi train. "In the past one month, 16 windowpanes and door glass have been replaced. Now, we do not have the stock for replacement. Temporary arrangements have been made to fix the damaged parts. It might take a few weeks. Higher authorities have been informed about the stone pelting issue. As the train moves at a speed of 160km per hour, such damage may result in passengers getting hurt," said a rail official involved in maintenance work. Uttar Pradesh: 3-year-old toddler mauled to death by stray dogs in Agra Agra toddler death: A three-year-old toddler was mauled to death and a six-year-old girl was injured after a pack of stray dogs attacked them in Agra. The incident took place in Kumargarh village under the Doki police station limits. "A three-year-old girl was attacked by stray dogs when she was playing in front of her house. She was dragged by the dogs to an open field outside the village," sub-inspector Ashok Kumar said. The other minor girl, who tried to rescue the toddler, was also attacked by the dogs, but she managed to run to safety, the official added. By the time the locals gathered and chased the dogs away, the three-year-old had succumbed to the injuries, the police said. "While the family is yet to lodge an official complaint, the other girl is undergoing treatment," said Kumar, who had accompanied assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Saurabh Singh to the village after the incident. In a similar incident on April 18, a retired doctor was killed by stray dogs while taking a walk on the Aligarh Muslim University campus. (With IANS inputs)

Agra: A 90-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Firozabad district and sessions court for his role in the killings of 10 people belonging to the Dalit community 42 years ago. The court in UP also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the lone surviving accused, Ganga Dayal. The nonagenarian was among 10 accused in the case; nine others died during the trial. District government counsel (DGC), Rajeev Upadhyay, said on Thursday, “In 1981, there was a massive violence in Sadupur under Shikohabad police limits. Ten persons, including three women and three kids, were killed and two women injured in the firing. A case was subsequently registered under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 302 (murder) and 10 suspects were identified.”
