New Delhi: The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women has formed a committee to monitor the probe into the murder of 19-year-old receptionist Ankita Bhandari and keep an eye on all the aspects of the case, as reported by the news agency PTI. "It is an extremely sensitive matter in which urgent action needs to be taken. A special committee has been set up by the commission to keep a close eye on the ongoing probe into the case," PTI quoted president of the commission Kusum Kandwal as saying. The committee comprises of SDM Yamkeshwar, Pauri's District Programme Officer, and Lakshman Jhoola police station sub inspector. They will inform the commission about the progress in the investigation, Kandwal said. Ankita Bhandari, who used to work as a receptionist at a resort near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, was allegedly killed by the resort owner Pulkit Arya, the son of former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vinod Arya,and two of his accomplices. By Agencies PAURI: In a major development in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the family of the 19-year-old woman receptionist who was killed in Uttarakhand allegedly by her employer refused on Sunday to conduct her last rites until they get the final postmortem details, even as a preliminary report said she died due to drowning. The draft report released by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, also said antemortem injuries (injuries before death) have been found on Ankita Bhandari's body, suggestive of a blunt force trauma. However, she died of drowning, said the preliminary report. Bhandari's body was recovered from the Cheela canal close to Rishikesh early on Saturday, six days after her parents found her missing from her room. The postmortem was conducted by a four-member team of doctors at AIIMS on Saturday. The details of injuries and other findings will be given in the final report, said the draft. Ankita's father and brother on Sunday refused to perform her last rites until they get the final postmortem report. "I am not satisfied with the provisional postmortem report. Former employees of the Vanantara Resort in Pauri district of Uttarakhand, where 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari was working as a receptionist when she was murdered, have stated that several illegal activities were regularly carried out on the premises, a senior police officer said on Tuesday. The resort was partially demolished by authorities in Pauri Garhwal district. (PTI) Special investigation team (SIT) chief, P Renuka Devi, told reporters that they were collecting statements of the former employees. “The SIT investigating the matter will soon prepare recorded the statements of former women staffers who worked at the resort before the murdered woman joined there as a receptionist. We have received information about former staffers who alleged illegal activities at the resort. All angles are being looked into,” she said. Bhandari’s body was recovered from the Chilla canal in Rishikesh on September 24. Kolkata: The death of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand has left her friends and acquaintances in shock. Vivek Negi, a school friend of Ankita, told NDTV today: "Ankita was excited about her future, her career and she wanted to support her family." Ankita, who worked as a receptionist at a resort owned by BJP leader Vinod Arya's son Pulkit Arya in Rishikesh, was murdered. Pulkit had reported her missing on Monday, as did her family, but police later said she was murdered by Pulkit and two of his staff members. All three have been arrested. "Ankita was from a very poor family and while in school, she used to always say that after completing her class 12, she would have to support her family," said Vivek. He added: "We are from the hilly areas of Pauri. People from this area often venture out in search of jobs, but they are usually very simple in nature. Ankita, too, was a simple girl who wasn't talkative. She was focused on her work and desire to stand by her family."
