By Aparna Anil Is your house on a storm water drain? Now you can find this out in a few steps. While the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is going ahead with the demolition drive, a citizen has come up with an online application that will help people verify specific locations. “This is a simple way to access Bengaluru survey maps to check for lake and rajakaluve encroachments. You can also use it for a better understanding of our villages and other geographical features,” said Shiv Shankar, the city-based entrepreneur, who developed the ‘Mapshalli’ application. “All the information is already out there. I have just made it more accessible,” he said. Verifying the encroachment information was cumbersome due to various reasons. “A simple example would be something like Palm Meadows club that everybody thinks is in Ramagondanahalli, actually belongs to a small village called R Narayanapura. Unless you know that, you won’t be able to check for this location on the BBMP website,” he said. Such hurdles are now removed with this application. “In order to make it very simple, I used Google maps, where you can locate your property. Over this, you load the different survey maps from the BBMP like the Kannada map and the encroachment list. I used the maps provided by BBMP to integrate them into an application to make it simple to use,” he said talking about how the web application works. In this case, one does not need to know the village name or ward number of the property....

‘BBMP defies court order, diverts rajakaluve to private land’

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has been carrying out an anti-encroachment drive across the city, is faced with the allegation of having defieda court order to divert the originalpath of a rajakaluve by encroaching on a private land at Singasandra village in Bengaluru south taluk. The BBMP started the work to build a rajakaluve in Survey Number (SN) 89/1 in April after floating a tender. For about 15 days, the civic body carried out works to remove the trench laid by the property owners. When the owners of the land learnt about BBMP officials building a storm-waterdrain, they approached vacation court on May4. On the same day, the court granted an injunction restraining the defendants (BBMP) and anybody from interfering with the plaintiff’s possession of the property. The order was issued by the Principal City Civil and Sessions Judge. One of the owners of the land, Saju Chacko, alleged that despite the court order, the BBMP continued work till June 6 for about a month in violationof the order, that too after he visited the spot to talk to officials and informed the police. After that, the BBMP was forced to stop the work. The order was notified to the BBMP officials concerned on May 4 itself by his advocate, he said. Where is rajakaluve? The revenue maps accessed by The Hindu and spot visit by this correspondent with the assistance of Deeksha application showed that the rajakaluve that stems from a nearby lake passes through SN 92 and 93. On both SNs, ...

BBMP demolition drive on SWD / Rajakaluve encroachments in Bengaluru

I. Overview In the month of August 2022, the city of Bengaluru during its monsoon season, particularly experienced heavy rainfall leading to congested roads and floods resulting in the displacement of infrastructural facilities located within and at the extended areas of the city. The reason however, for such a situation was not entirely connected to heavy rainfall, it was also attributed to the building structures which were laid down on the storm water drains, the mismanagement of resources and haphazard administration of the governing bodies responsible for the maintenance of such storm water drains, thereby obstructing the flow of rainwater which rendered the city in a handicapped state of affairs. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (“ BBMP”), carried out anti-encroachment drives in its attempt to arrive at a solution for the intense flood conditions and one such incident was on 17 August 2022, wherein the BBMP released a notification SWD”) also termed as ‘Rajakaluve’. The management and use of SWDs is interconnected in various ways to governance as well as the implications on the occupants, land developers which need to be considered in terms of its impact on the environment. II. The statutory requisites in relation to SWD or the Rajakaluve The statutory provisions pertaining to the management of SWD or Rajakaluves are primarily governed through byelaws. Currently BBMP has released the details at a very high level( Zone wise). In the coming days, BBMP has planned to release the details at ward level and using the GIS Data you can even look at the individual property level. I think even buffer zone demolition drive is going to start soon. As per today's newspaper report, BBMP has demolished some of the areas encroached by the Puravankara Builders for their Purva Skydale Apartment Project adjacent to haralur lake. But Info is not clear, whether its for Encroachment of the Lake Buffer Zone or the SWD area. Thanks for the info msn. i saw that news, i think since it was under construction they applied the buffer zone rule and demolished and this is case of lake. but the houses which are already constructed in buffer zone many years back they are not touching it i believe. because wherever they demolish i heard it will be 30ft or max 40 ft wide i guess where rajakaluve itself has been closed completely. if they demolish buffer zone too then it will be a 150 feet wide from the centre of already demolished area. no idea whats there plan. Please let me know if any info on the width of demolition drive happening in all the area. You can refer to the following link to download and verif...
