BYJU’s Tuition Centre plans to recruit nearly 4,000 teachers this year

BYJU’s Tuition Centre plans to recruit nearly 4,000 teachers this year as it sees a growing trend for personalised teaching for students in classes 4-10. The centre would offer both online and offline learning experiences. BYJU’s recently launched 80 Tuition Centres and plans to increase it to 500 in 200 cities by 2022 end. The centres will provide employment to around 10,000 people, including teachers. Each centre will have around 5 teachers, said Himanshu Bajaj, Head of BYJU’S Tuition Centre. The teachers will be teaching exclusively at the BYJU’s Tuition Centres, he told BusinessLine. “We already have around 600 teachers onboard.," he added. Available for students in classes 4-10, BYJU’S will be the neighbourhood tech-enabled physical tuition centres providing learning experience with focus on engagement and better outcomes through the two-teacher model, he said. BYJU’s will address complex concerns of students and parents, and is the next step in personalised learning. It will offer students two teacher models in tech-enable physical centres; teacher-student personal connects supported by analytics-led assessment of progress and performance and access to BYJU’S online ecosystem. “Our target is to enrol around 1 million students into this program in the next two years,” said Bajaj. “Our pay structure is much higher than the market,” said Bajaj without revealing how much premium teachers in the tuition centres will be paid over the market price. Byju’s to cut 1,000 jobs six months after mass layoffs: Report

Amid Byju’s escalating tensions with its creditors, the company is looking to cut at least 1,000 more jobs six months after a massive round of layoffs, the Byju Raveendran, CEO of education technology giant Byju’s.(File) Managers have been directed to sack two employees each from sales and marketing teams of its 280 tuition centres in India. Nearly 150 marketing managers may also be handed the pink slip. The report added that two months of salary will be given out as severance pay amidst a severe cash crunch, while many senior managers and assistant general managers have already left the firm headquartered in Bengaluru. Read: The news comes amid The Byju Raveendran-led company’s efforts to restructure the loan after the digital education boom fizzled out post-Covid19, failed after the creditors accelerated the repayment. The company rejected rumours of financial difficulties by stating, "Byju's remains financially robust with significant cash reserves. It remains open to discussions with the TLB lenders." Byju’s had Worth $22 billion in its last round of funding, US-based asset manager BlackRock reduced the startup’s valuation to $8.29 billion in May. The Enforcement Directorate in April had also conducted searches at the premises of Raveendran for alleged violations of foreign funding laws.

New Delhi: Almost six months after it fired 5,000 employees, education-technology giant Byju's is set to let go of around 1,000 more people, The move will hurt the sales and marketing teams the most, The Morning Context reported on Wednesday. NDTV can't independently verify the planned lay-offs. Several senior managers and assistant general managers in sales have reportedly already left the Bengaluru-headquartered firm. "The company is saying it will give around two months' salary as severance. But there seems to be a serious cash crunch," the report said. Byju's earlier this week decided not to make further payments on a $1.2 billion loan after a dispute with lenders, escalating a conflict that could jeopardize its future. Byju's "Given that legal proceedings are now on foot in both Delaware and New York, it is clear that the entire TLB is disputed," the company said, referring to the $1.2 billion term loan B. "As such, BYJU'S cannot be expected to and has elected not to make any further payment to the TLB lenders, including any interest, until the dispute is decided by the court." Some lenders and their advisers Byju's has refuted rumours that its decision not to make interest payments signalled financial difficulties. Byju’s expanding offline presence with tuition centres

Edtech company Byju’s is expanding its physical footprint with its neighbourhood tuition centres, which will offer maths and science classes for students from Class IV to X. Coaching will be provided in a hybrid mode, with half the classes online and half offline, with a monthly fee of around `4,500. Himanshu Bajaj, former partner at consulting firm Kearney, who joined Byju’s five months ago to head Byju’s Tuition Centre, said the business could grow to a size of around $1 billion in two to three years. The company will invest $200 million over the next 12-18 months to set up the tuition centres. The centres will be owned by the company and it will not use franchisees. Right after his graduation, Sandeep Changlani began teaching at a renowned institute in his hometown, Kota. “I was fortunate enough to find an opportunity to teach Science and Maths so close to home. It was an enriching experience that enhanced my academic prowess and enabled me to understand the nuances of building systems to optimise learning outcomes,” says Sandeep.
