Great tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 94th birth anniversary

Earlier whenever across India I had visited or in Bangladesh for my academic works (as I was a professor with an academic Organisation of Government of India), many persons told me about the legendary music maestro, lyricist, writer, composer, film director, and producer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The reason for telling me was that I hailed from Guwahati and last 25 years I am in Hyderabad. It is pertinent to mention that my father after completion of his MBBS from then Calcutta/now Kolkata settled in Guwahati. Dr Bhupen Hazarika was born at Sadia, in upper Assam on September 8, 1926. Also in 1936, Bhupen Hazarika recorded his first song at Aurora Studio then Calcutta. Later on, Hazarika sang two songs in Agarwala’s film Indramalati, at the age of 12 years. It is pertinent to mention that Indramalati (released in 1939) is the second Assamese film, directed by the great Assamese poet Jyotiprasad Agarwala. Dr Bhupen Hazarika completed his matriculation in 1940; Intermediate in Arts (IA) from Cotton College in 1942 and then joi...
