Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was a renowned Indian singer, musician, lyricist, poet, and filmmaker from the state of Assam. He was born on September 8, 1926, in Sadiya, Assam, and passed away on November 5, 2011, in Mumbai, Maharashtra.



Navayuga Engineering Company which constructed Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu is engaged in construction of this new bridge by Union Ministry of Road Transport and National Highways. An official of the Company said that the technology used in Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu is also being used in this new bridge.

Bhupen's son said Bharat Ratnas and longest bridges (Dhola-Sadiya bridge renamed Bhupen Hazarika Setu) are necessary but would not promote peace and prosperity of citizens of India. He added.



Bhupen Hazarika was awarded the Best Music Director National Award for Rudaali in 1993 and held the position of chairman at the Sangeet Natak Akademi from 1998 to 2003. Dr Bhupen Hazarika was also decorated with high honours, including the Padma Shri (1977), Padma Bhushan (2001), Padma Vibhushan (2016), and Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1992).
