Harihar fort Night trek Mumbai

Harihar fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village. It is built on a triangular prism of rock. Its three faces and two edges are absolutely vertical 90 degrees. The third edge towards the west is inclined at an angle of 75 degrees. A one-meter wide rocky staircase with niches in it is carved out for ascending & descending the fort. There are 117 steps in all. After you climb the first rocky staircase main entrance we walk thru below an overhang with a sheer drop. Again one has to climb a set of steep stairs with niches, then pass thru a staircase inside the rock-like Peth Fort - Kothaligad Fort and then reach the top of the fort. The view from the top is excellent. After climbing these steps, we get up to the entrance door. The fort has got a tapering plateau with a raised level in the middle. There is a small temple of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva on the plateau. A small pond is there in front of this temple. Water from this pond can be used for drinking. Making headway from here we come across a palace having two rooms in it. 10 to 12 persons can be accommodated in this palace. One of the vertical drops of the fort facing the Nirgudpada village is called 'Scottish kada', perhaps because it was climbed for the first time in November 1986 by Doug Scott, the legendary Himalayan mountaineer & took him two days to do the climb. Harihar Fort (Nashik)

We were travelling from Mumbai to Nashik via Jawhar to trekk this fort. Raods r good, through valley section, with a lots of turns and twists. Drive carefully, it may take time as it's not NH. It's just 40 kms before Nashik. Roads from highway to fort (10 kms) are not good, there r no hotels in this leg. However, small shops r there till the top of the fort. It takes one hour to climb up from the foothill, I along with my 11 years daughter started at 5:15 pm and reached on top by 6:20 pm. Don't carry ur kid, if ur kid is not confident and strong enough. Wear good trekking shoes for better grips. Yes, trekking here is quite adventurous and downward view may fill u with thrill. Don't keep any valuable in backpack, as monkeys enroute come and look for eatables, and may throw away remaining items, like, they did with my hotel booking papers, vaccination certificates and water bottles. If they come, be calm, let them check ur bags, keep ur grip on stairs, and let them take away what they wish. They don't harm. From Maha Darwaja (main entrance), there r more 30 steps that will take u to the top. Views from there is breathtaking. By the time, we reached top, sun was set. All the shopkeepers enroute had left (shops were closed) , as we started late. Fort remains opened round the clock. But in dark, one may stray as after sunset it's completely dark. Climbing down is more adventurous, I think. U will have to be on your fours. U will have to climb down in the same way (on your fours...
