New Driving Laws You Should Know About in Illinois for 2023 – NBC Chicago

More than 180 new laws take effect in Illinois at the start of the new year, and among them are a number of traffic-related changes drivers might want to know about. From new penalties for certain violations to guidelines for those who are carjacked or have their vehicle stolen, changes are coming for drivers across the state. According to Chicago personal injury attorney Lance D. Northcutt, one of the bigger changes is a shift in language for a number of laws related to traffic collisions. The change replaces the word "accident" with "crash." “As a personal injury attorney, we see far too many crashes caused by drunk or distracted driving. We often make an effort here at the firm to not use the word ‘accident’ in these types of situations that would have been avoidable had a driver taken proper care behind the wheel. It is encouraging to see lawmakers acknowledging that these incidents are preventable,” Northcutt, an attorney with Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, said in a statement. Feeling out of the loop? NHTSA says new rule for automakers would save hundreds of lives a year

Federal traffic safety regulators have proposed a major rule change for automakers related to braking that they say could save as many as 360 lives every year and reduce the number of injuries in crashes by at least 24,000 annually. It’s specifically aimed at reducing the perplexingly high number of pedestrian fatalities in recent years, a problem that Ann Carlson, chief counsel for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, called a “really dark spot” in traffic fatalities. A Free Press investigation, Carlson noted that pedestrian fatalities have increased 53% in 10 years; “With this proposal, we could change a high-speed crash from a deadly one to a lower speed crash with minor injuries or just property damage,” Carlson said Wednesday during a news conference. More: The proposal would shift a voluntary commitment by automakers in 2016 to install automatic emergency braking systems on passenger vehicles to a requirement, but one that even NHTSA acknowledged would be a tough standard to meet. Carlson said that about 90% of new light vehicles now have AEB systems and that the technology is “mature enough” to be proposed for all vehicles. The proposal, however, envisions full collision avoidance at certain speeds, meaning a vehicle would have to stop without touching another vehicle in front of it. More: Vehicles would need to fully avoid another vehicle in a collision at speeds up to 50 mph when a driver fails to react or up to 62 mph if a driver engages the brake ...

The New Motor Vehicle Amendment Act of 2019 imposes almost double the fine on the faulty driver as imposed by the previous Act. New Motor Vehicle Act 2023 Penalties List The amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 was previously proposed in the Lok Sabha in the year 2017. Although it gained the green flag from the Lok Sabha it failed to gain it from the Rajya Sabha which resulted in the discretion of the Act. But now in 2019 when the New Traffic Rules bill was proposed again, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha both passed the bill resulting in the implementation of the new Traffic Rules for the citizens of India. Traffic conditions in India The aim of the New Traffic Rules 2023 is to protect the citizens from accidents happening on the roads but in India, the traffic rules were very easily broken by the day-to-day drivers. Many drivers were driving their vehicles with more than two companions on them as normal citizens seem to be aware of these facts. This fact does seem to be unheard of or unseen by the Government but that is not the case now, with the increase in traffic by fellow underage drivers or the increasing accident now the Government has done its part. Implementation of New Traffic Rules Traffic in India i...
