Rajasthan: Minister Ramesh Meena fumes at Bikaner collector for being 'preoccupied' with mobile

BIKANER/JAIPUR: Panchayati raj minister Ramesh Meena publicly chided Bikaner district collector Bhagwati Prasad Kalal while addressing an event on Monday, alleging that the officer was preoccupied with his phone instead of paying attention to important issues that he was raising at the meeting. Meena made these remarks while addressing women at a programme at Ravindra Rangmanch in Bikaner. Collector Kalal and others were sitting on the stage. During his address, the minister looked at the collector who appeared to be busy with his mobile phone. Meena objected to it and asked why the officer was not listening to him. "Why are you not listening? Are bureaucrats so dominant in the state that they will not listen? These are the chief minister's directions, why are you not listening to us," the minister asked the collector over the microphone. The collector stood up and without saying anything left the stage. However, moments later, the officer was called back to the programme by other government officers. A video of the incident went viral on social media. Last week, minister Meena had made remarks against Alwar collector Jitendra Soni for being absent from a similar programme. 'What message does it give to the public' Bikaner/Jaipur: "If the district collector does not give any valid reason for being absent at the programme, he will not be able to continue as the district collector (of Alwar). He (Soni) may have become the collector at whoever's recommendation, but will not b...

Jailed Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes claims she won't be able to afford restitution payments of $250 a month to victims of her fraud when she's released from prison, Fortune reported. Notably, Ms. Holmes is jointly liable for the amount with Sunny Balwani, her ex-boyfriend and Theranos' former COO, who is serving nearly 13 years for his role in the fraud. Meanwhile, Mr. Balwani is required to pay $1,000 a month once he's out. However, the disgraced entrepreneur's lawyers objected to the decision, citing Ms. Holmes' "limited financial resources." "Mr. Balwani's amended judgment says nothing about what the Court intended for Ms. Holmes' restitution schedule. Ms. Holmes and Mr. Balwani have different financial resources and the Court has appropriately treated them differently," they wrote in a filing Monday, as per CBS News.
