Biju Patnaik was born on 5 March 1916 in Cuttack, Orissa, British India. His full name is Bijayananda Patnaik. Lakshminarayan and Ashalata Patnaik are his parents. After his graduation, he trained as a pilot. He joined the Royal Indian Air Force during World War II. He also held special interest in nationalist politics during these years.

Biju Patnaik’s interventions while participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks to the president’s address in the Lok Sabha on March 3, 1997 also need to be recalled with added.
