Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have roped in England’s Jason Roy as injured Shreyas Iyer’s replacement. Roy has been signed for INR 2.8 crore for the IPL 2023 from his base price of INR 1.5 crore. Roy is expected to come in after Thursday’s game, directly to Ahmedabad. Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the tournament owing to a lower back injury while Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has confirmed his unavailability for the season. Roy, who earlier featured in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, last played in the 2021 season for Iyer has opted to get his surgery done in London. As per a Cricbuzz report, the 28-year-old’s back injury is related to his disc. Earlier Hardik Pandya had opted to go to London for surgery when he too suffered a career-threatening back injury. India batter and KKR captain Shreyas Iyer is running against time to get fitter by half-way stage of IPL 2023 and be available for the World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final. As per a report, Shreyas has checked into National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bengaluru and has started working on his rehab. The recurring back injury has been a big trouble for Shreyas for a while.
