Telangana MLAs poaching case: How cops and TRS laid trap for alleged BJP agents

Multiple cameras and voice recorders in the room and a code word -- “nariyal paani layiye”. These were all part of an elaborate trap laid by the Cyberabad police and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi to catch alleged BJP agents in the act of bribing MLAs with crores to switch sides. The remand report submitted by the Cyberabad police in the Telangana High Court includes details of how the police apparently set a trap to collect evidence at the meeting at a farmhouse on Hyderabad outskirts on Wednesday, October 26. Police had raided the farmhouse where they said they found three men allegedly associated with the BJP trying to poach four MLAs of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), based on a complaint from TRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy. The three accused – Ramachandra Bharati alias Satish Sharma from Delhi, Nanda Kumar from Hyderabad and Simhayaji Swamy from Tirupati – were booked for bribery, criminal conspiracy and other charges, based on a complaint from MLA Rohith Reddy. The Cyberabad police have called it a case of “inducement of bribe to MLAs of TRS party to defect and also to discharge duties improperly and dishonestly and criminal Intimidation to topple & destabilise democratically elected state government.” The four legislators present at the farmhouse were Tandur MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy, Kollapur MLA Harshvardhan Reddy, Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju, and Pinapaka MLA Rega Kantha Rao. According to the police, the four MLAs were allegedly offered Rs 50 to 100 crore each, ap...

MLAs poaching case: Tushar Vellapally moves HC to declare SIT probe illegal

By Express News Service HYDERABAD: Tushar Vellapally, president of the Bharath Dharma Jena Sena in Kerala, filed a writ petition in Telangana High Court questioning the issuance of GO 63 by the Principal Secretary, Home Department, Telangana, constituting the Special Investigation Team (SIT), and appointing specific officers and members as part of the investigation team as being illegal, arbitrary, and gravely in violation of Articles 14 and 21 of the Indian Constitution. He also sought the transfer of the investigation on the file of the Moinabad police station to the CBI, which alleged the poaching of four TRS MLAs into the BJP. The petitioner claimed that on October 26, 2022, TRS MLA Pilot Rohit Reddy filed a complaint with the SHO of Moinabad. He claimed that on that date, Ramachandra Bharati and Nanda Kumar met and offered him money in exchange for leaving the TRS and joining the BJP. They also allegedly offered him Central government civil contracts and other positions. Since receiving a bribe from a political party is immoral, he chose not to accept such unethical actions by the aforementioned individuals. If he did not join the BJP, there would be criminal charges and raids by the ED and CBI, and they would ensure the downfall of TRS government, Vellappally said quoting Rohit Reddy. Furthermore, it was said that the SIT had sent the petitioner a notice under Section 41(A) CrPC. on November 16, 2022, and that notice had been received by the petitioner’s office staff...

For KCR, On Poaching Of MLAs By BJP, A Setback In Court

Hyderabad: In a big setback for Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his BRS party, the Telangana High Court today transferred the 'poachgate' case -- involving four MLAs of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi and some individuals accused of being linked to the BJP -- to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The High Court also disbanded the state-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was investigating the politically sensitive case. The SIT has said it will challenge the High Court order. He held a press conference and made the announcement. In such a circumstance, we felt the probe by SIT cannot be impartial," he added. Five petitions were filed asking for a CBI probe. Three by the accused, one by the BJP, and a fifth by a lawyer. The BJP petition was struck down on technical grounds, Mr Rao informed. "This is a very important order of the High Court. We welcome it,'' Mr Rao added.
