Tukaram Omble’s death has left a void in his family. If it wasn’t for the brave assistant sub-inspector, Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Kasab wouldn’t have been caught alive. Omble’s statue at Girgaum Chowpatty, near the place where Kasab was captured by him, continues to inspire people. After 10 years, Omble’s death is still a painful memory for his wife Tarabai and daughters Vaishali and Bharti. “We still feel that over Papa has gone out to police station on duty and will return home,” says Vaishali. “For us, he is a hero, he will remain a hero,” she said. Omble had taken five bullets on his chest and abdomen from the deadly Kalashnikov assault rifle. He was conferred with the coveted Ashok Chakra. “He had caught a fidayeen alive, which had never happened,” Vaishali adds. The 54-year-old Omble, who was attached to the D B Marg police station, hailed from Satara district of western Maharashtra. “What Omble has done is an exemplary act of bravery. But more than that he ensured that the terrorist is caught alive and he gets a fair trial,” a police official said.

Mumbai: In an act of recognition, new species of spider has been inducted into the scientific community with the name of 26/11 hero assistant sub-inspector Tukaram Omble, who laid his life and helped in apprehending the dreaded terrorist Ajmal Kasab. Known as Icius Tukarami, the new species has been mentioned in a paper published by a team of researchers which "describe two new species of the genera Phintella and Icius from Maharashtra state. ALSO READ: The research noted, "The specific epithet is dedicated to a hero of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, ASI Tukaram Omble AC, who took 23 bullets and captured the terrorist of the attack”. On the night of 26/11 attack, Ajmal Kasab and his fellow terrorist Ismail Khan made way into the Cama Hospital after the brutal attack at the CST railway station. The two terrorists entered from the back gate of the hospital and the staffers had locked all the doors from inside. The duo went on firing at the police team outside the hospital taking lives of six officers, including ATS chief Hemant Karkare. Later when Kasab and another terrorist Ismail Khan, were intercepted near Girgaum Chowpatty, it is Tukaram Omble who grabbed the barrel of their rifle. It is the heroism of Omble whose actions allowed the other police team to prepare and overpower Kasab to capture him alive. The brave heart assistant sub-inspector took the multiple bullets at point-blank range and ensured that other police officers don’t get injured during the fire fighting....

The BMC has given its nod to the statue of slain cop Tukaram Omble at Girgaon Chowpatty. Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said: “We will meet the beach monitoring high power committee after which the location will be decided. We will also take a decision on the size of the statue.” The structure is expected to come up before November 26 this year. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday, 1 December, said "there is no United Progressive Alliance (UPA) now", after meeting Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar at his residence in Mumbai, news agency ANI reported. Adding that she agrees with "whatever Sharad ji said", she added, "A firm alternative course should be made as nobody's fighting against ongoing fascism. Sharad Ji is the seniormost leader and I came to discuss our political parties." Further, Banerjee said that she came to Mumbai to meet Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar but she could not meet Uddhav due to his ill health. Thus, she had a discussion with Sanjay Raut and Aditya Thackeray. "I pray for his (Uddhav's) good health," Banerjee said. "A strong alternative should be given against the way fascism is going on in the country today. No one can do this alone. We will support those who are powerful in their own region." Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar said after the meeting: "Today, my colleagues and I had a long chat with her. Her intention is, in today's situation like-minded forces have to come together at national level & set up collective leadership. "We have to provide a strong alternative to leadership.
