TNN / Jan 15, 2023, 08:41 (IST) The veterans club of Odisha submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Defense on Saturday urging the government to pass a law to protect exservicemen from alleged exploitation. The club has also submitted an 18-page draft statute to the government. The exservicemen said that upon retirement, a soldier often feels like an unwanted element in the society. "Such a person is often considered as the one who was away for a long period and now came to claim his or her properties in many cases," the memorandum read. "The soldier is threatened to leave the native place and find another place to live." The president of the club, Bidyadhar Nayak, said that the rehabilitation of exservicemen has been not guaranteed by any authority. "It becomes a traumatic experience for many retired soldiers," he said. "We need to safeguard their interests as they have been safeguarding the country." Nayak said that many exarmymen are posted as security guards in several establishments on a mere remuneration of Rs. 5000 to Rs. 10000. "Several such companies take the plight of exservicemen as an opportunity to exploit them," Nayak said. JAMMU: An organisation of ex-servicemen staged a rally here on Monday demanding withdrawal of an FIR registered against Army personnel in Shopian recently and deportation of Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals from Jammu and Kashmir. They also demanded stern action against stonepelters and a provision to allow Army and paramilitary personnel to settle in the state by amending Article 370 of the Constitution. Voice of ESM Society met Defence Minister on 6th – Minster responded that the same will be part of 7th Pay commission, where as our stand was to treat it as part of 6th Pay commission – Our Stand is the we will explore both legal and agitational modes to fight for our right. Voice of ex-servicemen society team met Hon. Defence Minister, Mr.Manohar Parrikar and the following are the discussions and responses : • We raised the issue of VRS and sought clarification – Minister clarified that the issue was not never related to Jawan JCOs, it pertains to officers only. • On revision of of Pension every 5 Years, Minister explained that Army has agreed for the same in writing so there is no change possible. • We raised issues of group wise segregation of pension for Jawans, which is not paret of the definition of OROP as passed by parliament. In our argument, we brought out that Officers both technical and non technical get same pension, why discriminate for jawans – Minister said that other officer organisation accepted this division of Group X and Y. Also it would further cost 600 cr. to club them together. Hence not possible to club them at this point. – Our response is we will continue and intensify our fight. • We raised equal MSP and 75% pension issues – Minster responded that the same will be part of 7th Pay commission, where as our stand was to treat it as part of 6th Pay commission – Our Stand is the we will explore both legal and agitational modes to fight for our right....
