They blend two use cases of media consumption and productivity in one while being more portable than a laptop. But to be productive while typing, I need a trackpad on my tablet’s keyboard case. That’s why, when I first got hold of the Xiaomi Pad 6, my instant reaction was being bummed out looking at the keyboard case. But after using it for a week, I realized that Xiaomi Pad 6’s omission of a trackpad actually works out in its favor, thanks to Android. First, while typing in Google Docs on my laptop, I leave the mouse pointer at random positions. On the OnePlus Pad, it resulted in chaos. There were countless occasions while typing when the text would move to the place where the pointer was – mostly at the end of random lines on the above paragraphs – without me tapping or clicking on it. As a result, half my sentences would move at unintended locations if I wasn’t paying attention. There is no such issue with the Xiaomi Pad 6 because the absence of a trackpad means no pointer. Second, the trackpad experience on Android tablets isn’t as frictionless as on a laptop. It’s because Android is a touch-first OS, unlike Windows or macOS.
