KAWASAKI ZX

Updated: 19 April 2023 Words by Jeff Ware, Jon Urry and Ben Clarke In a bid to mimic Kawasaki’s WSB success on the road and close the gap with • Previous model: Styling, aerodynamics and built-in winglets are new, the engine, chassis, geometry and electronics are tweaked and it now finally has an all-singing colour TFT dash. But despite already being one of the most cramped superbikes around, the biggest change comes from the riding position which is more race focused than before. Don’t let that put you off, though, because although it’s now even better on the track, it’s still fantastic in the real world and even has cruise control. It now has all the makings of being able to live with the best of its rivals. 2021 Kawasaki ZX-10R ridden at the UK launch First published 29 April, 2021 by Jon Urry The Ninja ZX-10R is unashamedly a very track-focused bike and has been since it was first launched in 2004 and the 2021 model hasn’t changed this outlook on life. If you love its aggressive attitude the lower gearing makes it faster to accelerate, the chassis geometry gives it better front end feel and the aero package brings a much-needed fresh new look and talking point. On track it remains brilliant and the electronic assists designed to help you go fast are hard to fault. On the road it is still compromised through a cramped riding position, the TFT dash isn’t that flash and the motor is still less gutsy and more top-endy than some rivals – but what do you expect from a Ninja?...

Gen 2: 2006

Hello, Yesterday I've checked if the bike can hit the rev limiter in 6th (again): the revs seemingly stop at around 12600 on the tach, which was 289 km/h (or 180 MPH) on the GPS speedo. (17/39 sprockets) I wonder if there's a restriction of some kind, because of the steady revs, and the relative ease it accelerated - even with the dB restrictor in the muffler. Your just not going to get much more top speed than that outta a fairly stock G2 i am afraid, yes there is top speed limiter & rev limiter i just done think your near that, the tacho typically reads 800-1000 high on your clocks and your speedo.....well 289 is probably nearer true speed 272-274. Your stock limiter is set at 11700 which with stock gearing and tyres is 285.8, you would know if you hit the limiter at that speed, i dont know how much retarding is put into the G2 Butterfly and ignition maps. If you want get a flash and try again but to be honest i think if you want more you gotta build the motor proper. All modern bikes are limited. The speed is restricted to 300kph (189mph). How those restrictions are implemented between the bikes and manufacturers is different, but they all have that restriction initially. You would have to defeat the restriction through an ECU reflash typically, but that doesn't automatically mean you'll be able to go faster. If the bike doesn't have the power to overcome the aerodynamic resistance, its doesn't matter if the restrictions are there or not. Seeing 180mph on the GPS is dec...

So I did a top speed run today and my speedometer was not going over 189. It also wouldn't pass 13500ish RPMs. Will the speedometer read above 189? Sadly I don't have a GPS yet. I also wasn't tucked properly because my gopro was hitting my helmet. Archer Aggressive Flash w/ +500 rpms M4 Slip on Bazzaz auto tune Peaquat - yeah the flash is the key. This is a speed run video I made after re-flashing, you will see the speedo stick at 189 but the rpms keep climbing until the rev limiter kicks in at 1,4200 (you can hear the engine sputter at that point). short video: oh and I use a Garmin Etrex 10 for getting top speed readings at the track . You can turbo charge it, add a nitrous shot, increase the bore by 5mm, and run it downhill while downwind in a hurricane and the cluster will never show anything greater than 189mph. Doesn't mean the bike is limited to that speed, just that the display won't register anything higher than that. FYI, the reflash doesn't "remove" the topspeed limiter, it just sets the threshold so high you'll never be able to hit it. If you set the limiter to 999mph, it's essentially the same thing as removing it and the ECU won't know the difference. The source code likely requires some value to be in there.
