New Delhi: Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena faction has accused the party's group led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of "floating a fake narrative to justify their anti-party stand". In a Supreme Court battle between the two factions today, the Mr Shinde faction replied that Team Thackeray "want the Speaker to be stripped of all powers and want Supreme Court to become the defection tribunal. This is unprecedented. This is not where the trial is supposed to take place." Here are the Supreme Court highlightsof Team Eknath Shinde vs Team Uddhav Thackeray: They (Team Thackeray) say the Election Commission cannot go ahead with the proceedings but that is not true. Just because there is disagreement between members of the legislature party, it does not mean that the Election Commission cannot decide on issues. The two are completely unrelated. There is no actual disqualification so far. The questions which are involved would have a wide ranging impact on the body politic of this country. In a past judgement it has been made clear that once somebody goes before the electorate he or she does not go as an individual. You go as an ideology. After winning if you go and form an alliance of a different ideology then you cannot say that the members of the party cannot raise their voice against it. The group has gone to EC (Election Commission) and said 'we are the political party'. Let us not mix EC proceedings with disqualification proceedings. Intra party rebellion within the...

Tracking Eknath Shinde’s career trajectory, from driving an auto

It was a move that has taken everyone by complete surprise. Even the most seasoned political watchers wouldn’t have been able to predict this turn of events, which developed on Thursday afternoon. And the swearing-in has not been left to any delay either. Shinde will take oath at 7.30 pm this evening at Raj Bhawan, and Fadnavis also announced that he will not be a part of the new cabinet that is likely to be sworn in in the coming week. Fadnavis further added that the BJP has decided to support “Shiv Sena Legislature Party leader” Shinde to “save Hindutva and serve the people of Maharashtra.” He highlighted that while the saffron party and Shiv Sena had contested the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections together as a pre-poll alliance, Uddhav Thackeray “backstabbed us and dumped the saffron unit in the lust for power.” Born in Maharashtra’s Satara on February 9, 1964, Shinde hails from the Maratha community. His family shifted to Thane in search of livelihood, and Eknath completed his education until class 11 at Mangala High School & Junior College, Thane. Even while in school, Shinde was reportedly influenced by the ideologies of Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray. He took a plunge into politics and joined the party as a Sainik, introduced by then Shiv Sena President of the Thane unit – Anand Dighe – in early 1980. He started his career as a la...
