Kader Khan dies at 81, son says funeral in Canada on Tuesday

Veteran actor-writer Kader Khan has died in Canada after suffering from a prolonged illness. “My dad has left us. He passed away on December 31 at 6 pm as per Canadian time due to prolonged illness. He slipped into coma in the afternoon. He was in the hospital for 16-17 weeks. The last rites will be performed here in Canada only. We have our entire family here and we live here so we are doing it,” Khan’s son Sarfaraz told PTI, adding, “We are thankful to everyone for their blessings and prayers,” he added. He had dismissed The actor had been admitted after complaining of breathlessness and was put on a BiPAP ventilator. He was unable to talk and also showed signs of pneumonia. Kader Khan suffered from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia. Kader also underwent surgeries for his knees in 2017. Actor Manoj Bajpayee also paid respects to the actor-writer. "Rest in peace Kader Khan saheb," Bajpayee tweeted. Born in Kabul, Khan made his acting debut in 1973 with Rajesh Khanna’s Daag and went on to act in over 300 films. He also wrote dialogues for over 250 movies, with his first film as a dialogue writer being Randhir Kapoor-Jaya Bachchan’s Jawani Diwani. Sarfaraz said, "It is the way the Indian film industry has become now. There are too many fragmented camps and loyalties. The out-of-sight-out-of-mind mentality can't be helped.'' "My father always told us, his sons, not to expect anything from anybody and we grew up with the belief that one must do what is required in life and expect nothing in return," late Kader Khan's son said. ''However, the hurt is palpable, specially since not too many from the film industry have bothered to call his sons in Canada even after Kader Khan's death.There are so many people in the film industry whom my father was close to,'' Sarfaraz added. In a sad turn of events, it has been reported that the actor died after his medical condition deteriorated. Increasing trouble in his breathing had made doctors shift him to a BiPAP ventilator because the normal ventilator might cause more harm. It’s a very sad moment. I am in Goa and I have been mourning since I heard the news of Shakti Kapoor and Kader Khan were a popular duo, having done ‘over hundred films together,’ according to Kapoor. I have spent half my acting career with I am upset by this because I have lost many of my best friends in the industry who were lauded when they died but no one remembered them when they were alive. They were not spoken about, their achievements were not mentioned. When Kader Khan was not working for the last decade and was suffering, nobody was very concerned about him.
