Woman taken to mental facility after barricading herself in bedroom with knife

A woman was taken to a mental health facility in Lake County Saturday morning after she barricaded herself in her bedroom with a knife that she used to injure two police officers, authorities say. At about 9:20 a.m., officers with the Tavares Police Department showed up to the 1000 block of Magnolia Circle in response to calls about a woman “experiencing a mental health crisis,” said a news release by the department. A hostage negotiator for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist. Officers eventually used a Taser on the woman, who was still wielding the knife. As a result, two officers received superficial cuts to their hands. They were treated at the scene before continuing their work shift.
